Beyond the Buzzer: a Sneak Peak at Warren’s Girls Basketball (2023)

As our fall sports are wrapping up, the girls basketball team is in full swing. Tryouts concluded on October 31 and were prepared to play the day after. Varsity started their season out at New Trier, unfortunately, lost that first game by the final score of 54-27. However, they came back with a game against Philips High School, playing at Loyola Academy, and took home a significant win 66-49. Nari Powers led the Blue Devils with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Mariah Phelps was right behind with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Anika Youngman had 9 points and Shay Love chipped in with 8 points.

They also had a home game on November 28 against Lake Forest and secured a victory with a final score of 56-35 with Mariah Phelps leading all scorers with 20 points. Varsity defeated Zion Benton High School  by the final score of 58-10 with Nari Powers leading with 16 points, Anika Youngman scoring 12 points and Mimi Dilosa had 10 points in the victory. They played Libertyville on December 5 and suffered a loss. This leaves their record at 4-3. The Lady Blue Devils will play an away game against Stevenson High School this upcoming Friday night at 7 pm.

The Junior Varsity had a tough start where they lost their first two games, but still plan on turning things around. Their first game was against Fenwick with Anisty Callahan tallying 14 points and Jackie Amezquita racking up 9 points. They also had a home game against Lake Forest and won with a final score of 35-25. Anisty Callahan led the way with 13 points with Kimberly White contributing  10 points for the team. They also defeated  Zion-Benton by the final score of 44-20. They lost their last game against Libertyville but hope to come back against Stevenson on the 8th.

The Freshman/Sophomore team started strong and took a couple of losses. They gained a win against Zion-Benton with a final score of 31-10! They will continue to play hard and carry wins for our Frosh/Soph team!

All of the girls are optimistic and are ready to take home wins for our Warren Blue Devils.
