Where were you on Valentine’s Day this year? We were all at the Varsity Devilette Partner Dance Halftime Show!
On February 14th, the boy’s basketball home games had a very special halftime show. The Varsity Devilettes dance team, along with their appointed partners, showed off the highly anticipated “Partner Dance” routine to round out the end of their athletic season.
Students and staff across both campuses at Warren mark this as a must-see event on their calendars every year. This beloved performance tradition has been going on for several years, and does such a great job getting the school into both the holiday and school spirit!
Did you miss the show? Here’s everything to know about the performance.
At the beginning of February, and sometimes even earlier, the Varsity Deviliettes began recruiting a partner to dance with them not only for the infamous performance, but for a week-long stint of performance rehearsals. The dancers and their partners are given four days to put the show together for the Friday performance. This year, these kids had the dance polished off in a mere three days after having to cancel Wednesday’s practice due to the snowy weather!
The dance is a mixture of fun features to excite the audience with fun visuals and surprises. The Partner Dance featured dancer lifts, a turn sequence, a mass kick line, a Devilette spotlight, and soloist bombshells. This dance really has it all: Fun couple choreography, powerful hip-hop moves from the girls and boys, as well as a stellar contemporary combination for the partners. Credit for this fabulous number goes out to the senior captains of the Varsity Devilettes: Abigail Illescas, Gabriella Rea, & AJ Serrano.
Partner Dance soloist and senior partner Jordan Watt took on the Devilette experience for the very first time this February. Though Jordan admits getting the hang of moving his arms and legs to move in unison and mastering some of the dance moves was quite challenging, he never gave up on himself. He took the floor like a pro on Friday night, making quite an impression on the audience and all of our hearts!
Speaking of professionals, soloist and senior partner Miller Hallman led by example as one of the few partners who has now completed his third year as a Devilette Partner performer. As an active athlete, he enjoys joining this team each year to brush up on his tricks and moves. Miller comes back each year because he has so much fun performing in front of all his friends. He sure has come a long way since his first partner dance back in 2023!
Miller and Jordan are just two of the fabulous 13 partners who joined the Devilettes last week for a taste of dance at Warren. The Varsity Devilettes Dance Team pulls from all four grades of students here at Warren, and with them came a great selection of hard-working partners! What a great way to truly immerse yourself in Warren athletics!
We are so proud of this group and their performances. Great work, Blue Devils!
