“The Unforgiving Jungle,” a photo by Akhil Yerrapally, depicts an intimidating forest from the view below as it unnerves the viewer with its sheer size.

According to the photographer, he experienced a deep connection to nature while on a trail in Ohio. He wanted to convey its overwhelming power through the trees and present the “amorous connection” he then felt.

His intention was to make the photograph feel like “a harmonious piece, yet also a very chaotic one.” To him, the leaves and trees appear like they’re consuming the sky, expressing the authority and determination of nature. Despite this, the photo also has a false sense of symmetry that showcases beauty, according to Yerrapally.
