All About Warren Newport Public Library

Ava Palo, Staff Writer

Did you know that September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month? Help celebrate at your local Warren Newport Public Library. Here are some advantages to signing up:

Probably the most obvious, but, a library card gives you access to over 300,000 movies, TV shows, magazines and books. That means that every person who lives in Gurnee could check out 10 books, and there’d still be more left over! There have everything from classics to brand new, so there’s a wide variety for any type of reader.

With a library card at WNPL, you can use many online resources and apps. Some include: Press Reader, Hoopla, Lynda.com, the Chicago Tribune, and Mango Languages. My personal favorite is the app Libby. Through Libby, you can check out thousands of EBooks and audiobooks with just a tap. The interface is simple and easy to use, making it perfect for readers of all ages.

Because the library is just a quick half mile from the O’Plaine campus, it makes reading easy. Just drop in after school and browse (or maybe stop into the Vault and play some video games?). Many students make the walk over in December and May to use one of the library’s conference rooms for a finals study session.

Activities, activities, activities. WNPL hosts a plethora of fun things to do, like an Anime Club, various arts and crafts sessions, and Dungeons and Dragons games. Due to COVID-19, these events are all virtual, but they’re still a great opportunity to meet new people. They also host practice ACT/SATs every few months (FYI, there’s one upcoming on October 17th and 18th).

Did I mention that it’s free? Yeah. It’s free.

This is just a brief overview of what the library has to offer. Check out their website at https://www.wnpl.info/ for more detailed information.
