Historic Warren Girls’ Swimming & Diving Team Finish Season 6-0
November 14, 2017
Two Saturdays ago, the Girls’ Swimming and Diving team finished their regular season with an undefeated record of 6-0, naming them Conference Champions. When asked about how she felt going into the meet on Saturday, senior Dollie Kuzmickus said “I was nervous, sad that it was my last meet, [and] excited for the prospects of making history and gaining a – in my opinion – well-deserved title,” which the team sure did deserve.
Before the Conference Meet, the team had to face its most challenging opponent: Stevenson. Although the stakes and nerves were high, they finished off their last dual meet with a hard-fought victory. Kuzmickus remarks that this “season was similar, in that they put in the same amount of work and spirit. The difference was our confidence in our team and our abilities.” That newfound confidence pushed the team to numerous victories. It was bittersweet, marking Kuzmickus’ last conference meet as a swimmer for Warren. “I [have] made so many new friends, including some of my best friends,” she said, when asked about how being on the team has affected her. “It forced me to get involved in the school and gave me some sense of belonging,” she added, which I’m sure all students involved in a sport or club can attest to. Last weekend the team competed at the Sectionals meet and this weekend, juniors Carissa Barker and Alyssa Church, as well as seniors Danielle Glisovich, Jackie Goldman, Emily Wong, and Megan Wong, will be competing at the State meet for swimming. In addition, seniors Carly Baun and Teagon Albert will be competing at the State meet for diving.
Good luck and congrats an amazing season!
Editor’s Note: Especially since swimming is so competitive, Warren’s accomplishments this season are even more amazing. Unbelievable job by all swimmers and divers inside and outside the classroom – they’re some of Warren’s best athletes and students!
