While some say that the eyes are the window into the soul, handwriting could give it a run for its money. The way you write from the shape of certain letters to the spacing you have could say a lot about your personality and even mental health. More and more research has come out showing that handwriting could be able to show us early signs of mental health issues and potentially be used to cue others to try and find some help. While it is acknowledged that handwriting can be changed to external elements like posture, types of writing tools, and even temperature it can also be a sign of internal moods. Most obviously intoxication changes handwriting due to the mental effects it has, as well as tiredness and mood but handwriting also changes when traumatic events occur or illnesses like schizophrenia, neurosis, brain injuries, Parkensions, and Alzheimers. These can show up in small things that go unnoticed and simple changes in handwriting shouldn’t be used as a diagnosis but if there is a continual pattern in handwriting cues that are also seen in your life it might be a sign to ask for some help. To walk through some examples of cues and illness associations there is excessive pressure on paper showing stress or anxiety, inconsistent letter formations showing emotional turmoil, less controlled handwriting being connected with OCD, tiny handwriting being linked to Parkinsons, sudden increase in pen pressure and a distinct slant can show bipolar disorder, and many other examples like this. For people with ADHD handwriting is often seen to change in some way from day to day. With many different mental health concerns there are in the world these are just some but there has been lots of research done on this expanding idea. So if you’re looking for some sign or just trying to do a personality test with your handwriting, both are possible.
