On Saturday night the Blue Devils faced off against Lincoln-Way East in the quarter final round of the IHSA Playoffs. Unfortunately, The Blue Devils lost to LWE by the final score of 24-0.
The Blue Devils came out strong in the first quarter as they reached the red-zone area of the field, inside the 20 yard line, quite a few times. Turnovers were the culprit on the night for the Blue Devils as they turned the ball over a few times in critical moments as they were in scoring position moving the ball versus the #2 ranked team in the state. On the defensive side of the ball, once again the Blue Devils were tough, as they have been on their long winning streak holding Lincoln Way East to only 7 points in the first half. The final score was not indicative of how close this game was as LWE was only up 10 to nothing midway through the 4th quarter.
Owen Rentas, a strong safety said “Our goal was to beat them, we started off strong and didn’t end strong. This will be the fuel to the flame for the juniors to beat them the next time. This legacy will continue to get stronger and stronger until we can beat them”
“The beginning of the season was a little rough because everyone doubted us because of our first 2 losses and we came back with 9 straight wins to prove that we are still a prestigious team in the conference” Rentas said.
Coach McNulty said “I’m extremely proud of these guys. This is the first year we haven’t had multiple guys with division one offers. The seniors were leading the way and played tough Warren Township football”
As for what Blue Devil fans should look forward to next year McNulty said “We’re going to be playing tough football, this is going to be our hardest off-season yet. I expect them to see a team with a ton of effort, energy and an improved team”
The Blue Devils finished their season overall with a record of 9-3 and 7-0 in conference.
