Is there that one time you want to go to an arcade? And if you do want to go there, which one would you go to? Well, step aside Chuck E. Cheese, because Dave & Busters is here to solve your problem… and here to make other problems disappear.
The location that my family and I went to was at the Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills, which we went through to get inside. This was also the first time I have ever gone to a Dave & Busters location. Once we were inside, I was greeted by a positive atmosphere, albeit it was a bit loud. We bought two $20 power cards, which had 100 points each on them, and played the hour away.
I remember playing quite a few games, like a Mario Kart game that they had. I got 2nd place as Rosalina, and my Dad got 5th when he played as Baby Peach. There was also an Angry Birds game that I beat on the first try. I got 500 tickets from that game. When I played again, I ended up slightly breaking the game because the bird didn’t hit the screen. It was still fun, though.
I then played a game where you hit the lit-up buttons with my mom, which we did okay at. The Mario Kart game wasn’t the only Mario game at this arcade, as there was a game where Mario & Sonic characters go to the Olympics and participate in events. I played as Metal Sonic, doing events like swimming, discus, and the 500 meter dash.
There was this coin pusher game that was slightly broken and not that good. We didn’t win many tickets from this game, and we initially didn’t understand how to claim the tickets. We tried to tap to claim the tickets, but it only gave us more tokens. So we slid in the card to claim the 2-6 tickets we got from this game. I did keep two of the tokens from that game, since I thought they were cool.
Some other games I played were Whack N Win (a game where you used a hammer to whack a button), the Big Bass Wheel, one of those rigged claw machines that don’t let you win anything most of the time, one where you caught emojis at the right time, and a “world’s largest” Pac-Man game. Oh yeah, and my mom played some Galaga.
My card had around 750 tickets, and my mom had around 150 on her card, which left us with around 900 tickets. I used all of those tickets on a Knuckles PEZ dispenser which was 450 tickets, a set of small fizzy candies in soda cans which was 400 tickets, and a cheap 50 ticket frisbee. We didn’t eat any food there, so after that we left.
Overall, Dave & Busters was quite fun. It had pretty good games, quality prizes, and fun no matter which way you go in the building. The only flaw is that it can be a bit expensive, unlike places like The People’s Choice in Waukegan. Other than that, it’s great! I really recommend that you go here, because you won’t regret anything when you do.
