Did you know that French people consume around 25,000 snails each year? While that may not be the most appetizing fact, a far more pleasant one is that the French programs here at Warren are excited for the best time of the year. In just a few weeks, we will be celebrating the 22nd annual National French Week! It’s an entire week organized by the AATF (American Association of Teachers of French) dedicated to celebrating Francophones and Francophiles across the United States inside and outside of schools to further demonstrate the reasons why you should learn the language and culture. This year, we observe National French Week from November 6 through the 12th! The theme for the week is “Le Français – Langue Globale” or “The French – Global Language”.
There are various ways you can celebrate National French Week. Have you noticed at Warren the previous years that you hear French music in the halls more often than usual? (For one week of course!) That’s Warren celebrating National French Week. Here are some songs that reached top 10 during the month of October:
Pour Elle – SDM
Cartier Santos – SDM
Sois Pas Timide – Gims
Toka – SDM and Hamza
Spider – Gims and Dystinct
Manon B – Tiakola ft. Ryflo and Oksoow
Monaco – Guy2Bezbar
Metallica – Sdm and Werenoi
Ca Parle Mal – Bouss
Petunias – Werenoi
Watch out for some catchy french songs to add to your playlist during passing periods!
While music is a big part of celebrating National French Week, there are still more ways to celebrate! Whether you’re a fluent speaker or a beginner, celebrating National French Week offers an opportunity to appreciate the many aspects of French culture. AATF also offers two contests during the week, which includes: the National French Culture Trivia Contest and the National French Week Media Contest. For the media contest, students can submit videos or animations from 30 seconds to 3 minutes long based upon the theme. Winners receive prize money and the deadline to submit a video is November 22nd, 2024.
As a Public Coordinator of Warren’s French National Honors Society, I am proud to help represent and promote the various events and activities both French Club and French NHS do here at Warren. On October 24th, French Club and French NHS will be participating in the annual Trunk-Or-Treat. We’ll be handing out candy dressed in our halloween costumes and spreading our passion for the language and culture. Warren’s French Club will be hosting various meetings during the week as well. For every meeting visited, students’ names will be entered into a raffle, where they can then receive a prize if their name is chosen. There will be games, music, food, crafts, and more. It’s a great way to further explore and indulge yourself in French culture. The French Honor Society is organizing a spirit week for all Francophiles to participate in, too! The French programs here at Warren are beyond excited to celebrate the annual National French Week. Dive into a celebration of culture, connection, and understanding. We truly cannot wait to provide Warren’s Francophiles with a sense of camaraderie during such a special week. Join us and mark your calendars for our week-long celebration!!!
