One Summer Night
September 11, 2017
She loved the easy warmth of the summer, married with the breeze from the windows of her car; she felt it on her face as they rode through a hazy July evening. The family car was filled to the brim with relatives on their way home from a night out, celebrating the anniversary of an octogenarian’s birth. They ate Italian food, reminisced about the past, and enjoyed the present, with a healthy disregard for the future that envelops us all in those warm, free summer months. The girl sat wondering what it must be like to have lived for that long. How frightening, that time flies in the blink of an eye. Yet how beautiful, to be able to look back on your life and see so many wonderful memories. The girl smiled to herself as it dawned on her that she had the honor of prominence in such memories, in the mind of her grandmother.
