As the end of the school year is approaching quickly, we like to take a moment to appreciate the careers of our retiring staff members. It is with sadness that WTHS must say goodbye to Mr. Jecmen.
Mr. Jecmen is a beloved teacher at the Almond campus; however, he hasn’t always been at Warren. After graduating from Eastern Illinois University, he started teaching English and U.S. History at Mundelein High School in 1990. Then, in 1994, he took a position at Warren to teach only English. The following year, though, he started teaching U.S. History full time.
When he began at Warren thirty years ago, Mr. Jecmen was a track coach; as well, he started coaching cross country thirteen years later. Right now, he plans on continuing his coaching into the coming seasons as a volunteer for both sports.
Mr. Jecmen says that his favorite memory from WTHS is the process that led to the referendum being passed in 2022. He loved seeing people come together to save our school because he believes in the quality of both the school itself and the community that surrounds it.
As for his plans in retirement, Mr. Jecmen would like to try new things, spend time with friends and family, and travel with his wife. Since he has been in the school system for basically his whole existence, he says that it will definitely be an adjustment, but at the same time, he is excited to explore his new world.
I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to be Mr. Jecmen’s student this year. He will greatly be missed, and I wish him the best of luck in his next chapter.
Thank you Mr. Jecmen.
