Scratch Paper is the oldest publication in WTHS history and started in 1921 as the Warren Buzzer. And for over 100 years, the newspaper, now known as Scratch Paper, has continued to deliver news to all Warren students.
But have you ever wondered what goes on at Scratch Paper? How are the articles written and how do they come up with the ideas for them? How does everything work? Here’s how it all happens:
Scratch Paper members meets twice per month on Wednesdays in room 138 at the WTHS Almond Campus. The many members meet up as current events are discussed and eventually written into articles.
Writers at Scratch Paper use a program called SNO to create their articles, which is the program I’m using to type out this article right now. The newspaper used to be printed on paper, but as technology advanced and the internet grew, the newspaper began to go digital in the 2010s.
Once their articles are done, they are submitted for review. The Scratch Paper editors look at these articles and fix any mistakes or change certain parts of the article. The article is then sent out for you and many others to read.
The video announcements are filmed in the same room the meetings take place. If you have been inside the room, you would know that the background for the announcements is in there. The upperclassmen Scratch Paper members can sign up to do the announcements. The announcements are then edited together, uploaded to the Scratch Paper YouTube channel, and shown to students at both campuses. They are usually shown on Mondays and Thursdays.
The Instagram and TikTok social media pages are run by the Scratch Paper editors. The editors produce content for the pages, and share them out to all WTHS students. The Scratch Paper YouTube channel also uploads recaps from Warren sports games.
And now you know how everything works right here at Scratch Paper. I hope that most of your questions have been answered with this short article.
If you do have other questions about Scratch Paper, email Mr. Georgatsos at [email protected]. But for now, at Scratch Paper, Warren students make articles for Warren students, and we’ll continue to do that for many years to come…
