Searching for a Sponsor: Spanish National Honor Society
September 17, 2017
Over a month into school, activities, and sports are well underway as Warren Township High School’s 2017-2018 school year has started seamlessly, with the exception of the Spanish National Honor Society. After the retirement of SNHS Sponsor Señora Taylor-Boehm at the end of the 2016-2017 school year, officers and members of the society are in a predicament. The hundred-some members are unable to formally meet and work as a society without the aid of a teacher’s guidance. Despite the officers’ ceaseless search for a Spanish teacher who is interested in becoming involved and supervising activities, SNHS has yet to receive confirmation of an official designated sponsor.
Spanish National Honor Society brings together native and non-native students enrolled in Spanish courses at the Almond campus. These upperclassmen are bound by their dedication to their school work and love for the Spanish culture and language. A vigorous application and elimination process conclude in new members being inducted every May. With events varying from Culture Fest to Cook-Off to monthly meetings to movie nights, the society offers an unparalleled opportunity for Spanish students to further their understanding and explore the language. The skills of members further differ from individual to individual, through enrollment across Honors Spanish III to AP Spanish Literature and Culture.
Such a unique and prestigious program brought to Warren teeters toward collapse because of one reason: the absence of a sponsor. The society hopes to find an interested employee of Warren soon in order to sustain SNHS’s existence and to continue in its efforts to bring together a diverse group of students.
