Super Show was presented by the International Club on April 19th at the O’Plaine Auditorium as a way to sponsor UNICEF– an organization that work sin over 190 countries and territories for struggling adolescents. UNICEF works with young children to improve their education and overall lifestyle, so thank you to everyone who came, as your payment helped make a difference, as well as enjoying watching our very own students perform to their hearts’ content.
Super Show was brought by Ms. Stewart and Ms. Bohorquez, along with Ms. Stepek, Ms. Lonigro, and Mr. Escobedo. Every performance was outstanding, and we have the tech crew, excess, and backstage crew to appreciate for helping our very own students perform to their very best on that stage that night! Lights and sound include: Griffin Fox, Anya Polanski, and Lilly Parrott. For backstage, we thank Victoria Melkowski, Melody Henrnadez, April Reyes, Sehjyotleen Sahota, Andrea Jaime, Kylie Clarke, Favour Ubaka, and Angela Sarzaba. Even some of our very own emcees performed themselves, so we thank Nevaeh Bullitt, Victoria Melkowski, Kylie Clarke, Ude Etim, Melody Hernandez, Sehjyotleen Sahota, Erica Papillon, Favour Ubaka, Heav Gutierrez, Kalista Lee, April Reyes, Angela Sarzaba, and Brandon Loeper for emceeing our performers on stage, as well as officers Tiana Miller and Jazmine Canales for helping out as well! They all looked amazing as they introduced each performer with wonderful smiles on their faces.
We had many spectacular, breath-taking, and unforgettable performances. Starting off the night with Mentally Il(linois) (Mentally IL), the band consisting of freshman Drew Hammond on guitar, junior Ruby Lester on drums, freshman Alex Rumph on bass, and sophomore Addie Piszkiewicz on main vocals, the high-energy quartet kicked off the night with raging enthusiasm and charisma from the crowd! We then had senior Nate “The Great” Abrego who sang “What Dreams Are Made Of” by Hillary Duff. He performed last year in ’23 with his now-grad friend Noah as well, and sang just as wonderfully this year. To close off our first set of performances, junior Ude Etim sang her heart out on stage with millions of lights from the crowds’ phones. Amazing job to these three performers and performances for starting off the night and riling up the crowd!
For our next set of performances, we continued with the Dancing Desis. Juniors Vernika Rao Kalipi, Anya Jaganathan, Disha Dayalan, Piya Chauhan, Krish Patel, and Vedant Sayankar danced and represented South Asian culture. In their first half of the dance, they represented folk dancing of North India, while the second half presented South Indian classical dancing. They all did amazing with presenting South Asian culture throughout their choreographed dance! Following with senior Gillian Hausfeld, or “Red Hot Chicken Feet”, they performed “Valentine” by Laufey with nothing other than their own voice. They had beautiful vocals to close off their senior year with such passion and charm. For the end of our second set, we close off with senior Aiyana McAulay, who you may recognize from doing color guard for 4 total years at her time at Warren. She choreographed her own showcase to “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims and danced beautifully on stage for everyone to see, as well as smooth flag and rifle spinning. Great job to these three!
Continuing with the night, senior Zaira Felix performed for the first and last time at Super Show with “Beautiful Stranger” by Laufey. Her magnificent singing definitely earned some well-deserved cheers from the audience, which is a heart-warming way to end her senior year. We then had Violet Garden, a Chicago-based four piece band from 2022 consisting of seniors David Gonzalez as lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Axel Aguilar on lead guitar, Caleahl Callahan on bass guitar, and junior Gabriel Willhite (Gman) on drums. Violet Garden has performed numerous times throughout their years at Warren, so they had no trouble getting the crowd pumped up for Super Show with their performance. Ending our third set of performances, we have Las Tres Olas, consisting of freshmen Noelia, Ale, and Kaylee. These three sang “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney movie Moana, as they adored the movie and wanted to showcase their singing abilities. They sang with a twist, rather singing in English, French, and Spanish, which is superbly impressive and brought well-deserved cheers. Everyone did spectacular to keep the show going with roaring enthusiasm and cheers!
The night doesn’t end there! Senior Viviana Salgado sang “Tu Falta De Querer” by Mon Laferte and blew everyone away with her voice. After practicing at family parties ever since her add taught her how to sing from a young age, everyone was able to hear how much her singing paid off, as well as the passion in her voice. Continuing with Inv7nom, this seven-person group consists of seniors Heav Gutierrez, Jessica Powell, Jessica Castor, Brandon Loeper, Erica Papillon, and Nevaeh Bullitt, as well as junior Jaylin Bartolome. They covered “Step Back” by the KPop group “Got the Beat” and let their energy flow throughout the crowd with boisterous cheers and confidently closed out (most) of their seniors years with their final performances on stage. Super Show continues with senior Giana David who sang “Wondering” by Olivia Rodrigo and Julia Lester, singing her heart and emotions out on stage with her beautiful vocals. She’s been singing for her whole life, and although this is her first and last year performing, singing will always be a part of her.
Senior Daiana Barrera blew everyone’s minds away by performing “Mine Again” by Mariah Carey, one of Daiana’s biggest singing inspirations. She’s done Super Show for the past two years and earned some amazing love and cheers from the crowd with her splendid vocals. Continuing with senior Alexx Claxton, Alexx makes their striking debut by performing “Butterfly” by KPop group LOONA. Their dance cover beautifully portrayed the butterfly effect, as said in the song’s name. Performing solo on stage takes confidence, and Alexx was able to bring just that to the crowd! We then had junior Kalista Lee sing “Bakit Pa” by Jessa Zaragoza to represent Asian culture in Super Show. Though originally sang in Tagalog, Kalista also sang some lyrics in Hmong, her native language, and still sang sublimely throughout the song. Amazing job to all singers and dancers!
We start closing off the night with junior Krystal Castaneda, who sang “El Crucifijo de Piedra””, a ranchera song filled with sadness. Krystal sang with such a strong voice on stage and magnificently conveyed the powerful emotions of the song through her singing! And ending off the night with Warren-famous drumline, the group consisting of seniors Griffin Fox, Lilly Parrott, and Maddie Berkey with juniors Hector Cruz, Ruby Lester and Saffa Sahki, sophomore Jordan Penfold, and freshman Mica Panagiotopoulos and Mehek Masud, drumline was able to end off the night of Super Show with up-beat rhythms as they take their inspiration from the Blue Man Group. After iconic legacies at football games and parades, they were the best way to end off the night with Krystal.
Thank you to everyone who came by to watch your own friends and classmates perform with smiles on their faces. Everyone’s support was greatly appreciated by each performer and crew member who helped make Super Show possible and just as enjoyable for everyone else! We highly encourage for any upcoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors to audition and perform in the next upcoming years of Super Show.
