TED-Ed Club: Warren’s Newest Innovative and Informative Club
November 14, 2017
Last Monday, the very first TED-Ed Club meeting was held after school. Don’t know what TED-Ed Club is? Summed up, its founder, senior Ayusha Ayalur described it as “finding something you’re passionate about and spreading it to a wider audience (without being boring).”
If you’re familiar with TED Talks, then you already have an idea of what the club is all about! If you’re not familiar, TED Talks are online talks focusing on a wide range of topics from technology to science to global issues. TED-Ed Club provides is an opportunity for members to interact with each other as well as the topic of choice, which those watching the TED Talks live do not have. In addition, you have the opportunity to share what you’re passionate about with others as well as potentially gain new interests from those shared with you. When asked what inspired her to create a TED-Ed club at Warren, Ayalur said, “I did a TED-Ed Club in middle school with my friends and it was a blast. We got to discuss topics that we were interested in for fun, and I wanted to bring that to Warren because I know a lot of people would have liked to have that outlet.” Having the opportunity to talk about and potentially debate topics that aren’t addressed during the school day provides a larger platform for students to share their ideas and listen to those of their peers. This allows for an increased cohesiveness among members as well as exposure to new ideas. “There are no limits [to what can be talked about] and it’s [an opportunity] to hang out with your friends,” remarks Ayalur in response to why people might be interested in TED-Ed Club.
Although there have only been two meetings this semester, meetings will start back up once school resumes after winter break. TED-Ed Club meets on late start Mondays from 2:30pm-4:00pm in room 116, so if you want to spend more time talking about things that interest you and others, stop by!
