The Ups and Downs of Being a Military Child

 

Being a military child can be a wonderful and very experience and challenge. Although being a military child seems fun, it does have its pros and cons.

  The biggest advantage of being a military child is having the opportunity to live in different kinds of places and parts of the world. Moving to new places exposes you to diverse cultures, languages, and traditions, broadening your perspective. You get to try new foods, learn about different traditions, and meet people from all walks of life. It’s like having a built-in passport to the whole world.

Another pro of being a military child is that you can build resilience. You can constantly adapt to new environments and make new friends along the way, and they can help you develop more resilience and adaptability skills. You learn how to navigate unfamiliar situations and make new connections, finding your place wherever you go. 

The last pro of being a military child is that you can have unique experiences. You can witness and participate in special events like homecomings and military ceremonies. These moments are incredibly meaningful and these are memories that will last a lifetime. You get to show your support for your parent’s service and feel proud to be part of a military family.

Now that you have read the pros of being a military child and how fun it is, let’s talk about the cons and how hard it is to be a military child.

Being a military child means that you have to frequently move. It can be tough, leaving behind friends, schools, and familiar surroundings, and starting over in a new location. It can be hard to adjust to new schools, find new friends, and feel settled in a new community.

A second con is switching schools. Switching schools can disrupt your education. It can be challenging to adjust to new curriculums, teaching styles, and social dynamics. It may take time to find your footing academically and socially. It would also make it challenging to establish long-term friendships.

The third con is having to part with a parent. When one of your parents is deployed, it can be tough emotionally. you will miss them a lot and have to adjust to them being away for extended periods of time. However, there are times when you can call or Facetime them; But, it can be hard when there is a time difference or the calls would have to be extremely short.

In Conclusion, yes, being a military child does have its ups and downs, but it is a journey filled with wonderful and unique experiences and opportunities. From the excitement of traveling and discovering lots of cool and fun places to a whole new community and resilience. From traveling the world and getting a whole new perspective that comes with being a military child, there are many positives to cherish. However, it’s also important to acknowledge the challenges of saying goodbye to friends and adjusting to new schools. Despite the ups and downs, being a military child will shape you into a strong, adaptable, and globally-minded individual.
