WTHS Girls Volleyball traveled to Huntley High School to take on the Libertyville Wildcats for the Sectional title. The Blue Devils had already played and lost to the Wildcats twice this season, but they came into this latest match with new energy and a drive to make it to the next round. This match marked the furthest that Girls Volleyball has made it into playoffs in over a decade, and their record has proved it: 26-10 leading up to the game and a 5-2 conference record.
The Blue Devils came in much stronger than they’d been in previous matches against Libertyville, as well as the season as a whole. They scored the most points on tips and off-speed attacks rather than fast swings. A solo block from junior Taylor Coombes closed out the first set 25-22; however, the Wildcats stole the second set by five points. In a standard match, the third set is typically played to 15 points, but playoffs take it to 25. The Blue Devils lost 18-25 in the third set due to miscommunication and a loss of momentum. Both teams struggled with serve and serve-receive, but Libertyville pulled through and advanced to “super-sectionals”, later losing to Barrington.
