The ACT and SAT’s are a stressful time for students due to it being the first time having to take a long test about 4 topics and having to answer them in a certain time limit. With all the material students have learned, it’s good to study beforehand to be prepared so below are tips to help make studying easier.
Tip 1: Study groups
Studying in a group of two or more people is helpful when prepping for the ACT or SAT because you’re able to view different perspectives, give each other motivation, and more importantly reduce anxiety. When in a group you’re able to look at how everyone solves a problem in their own way and can learn new ways that you might not have thought to use. Working in a group can also help you feel more secure and motivated to work hard and study for the ACT/SAT.
Tip 2: Spacing effect/State dependent memory
The Spacing effect is when you space out a topic that you’re learning instead of cramming in one day or skimming the work every so often. You could practice everyday for at least 1-2 hours to improve your memory on the topic. State dependent memory is how your ability to recall information is based on the state that you’re in. If you’re in a positive and calm state while studying, then the day of the test you should also be in that same state as it can help you recall the information.
Tip 3: Ask your teachers
Your teachers are also helpful when preparing for the ACT/SAT. They’ve done it and or have helped others prepare in the past. Even though they may not know what exact questions the tests may ask, they can still offer helpful websites or study guides to make you more prepared.
Remember that preparation is one of the keys to obtaining a good score, just study hard and relax, you got this. Good luck!
