Since the deaths of six hostages, there have been protests and relentless talks on what the next steps are to free them. On September 3rd US prosecutors charged Hamas leaders with the October 7th attack. The six on trial were Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, Mohammad Al-Masri, Marwan Issa, Khaled Meshaal, and Ali Baraka. The charges they faced were terrorism, conspiracy to murder a US national, and conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. Sinwar is believed to have committed multiple treasonous acts in his life some of which he was charged with four life sentences, he served 22 years before he was released. Now, he is believed to be a leader in the October 7th attack. Biden has expressed that he feels Netanyahu (Israeli prime minister) isn’t doing as much as he could to free the hostages.
An anonymous source in Israel says that the prime minister has approved many of Biden’s requests already even against resistance from others. It would be simple to say that the two leaders are at odds with each other. This is on top of the many pressures that Netanyahu is facing from grieving and outraged protesters after the bodies of the hostages were found. On September 6th, Israel pulled back from Jenin and Tulkarem. The people of Jenin have said that this has been the longest and most intense military operation in their city since October 7th—destroyed streets and buildings, as well as severed water and electricity supplies. Food is being rationed and people are afraid to go outside. The “deadliest period in the West Bank since November” is what the UN has called it. With this war still going on, send prayers to the people and stay updated.
