The Warren football team began the playoffs strong, picking up a dominant 39-3 win against the Oswego Panthers. The Devils dominated on the ground yet again, as Donovan Mcneal ran for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns and Aaron Stewart ran for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns. The other touchdowns were scored on a 22 yard passing touchdown to Dajhir Gordon and a punt return by Xzayvion Montgomery. Special teams shined as Jeremija Hixson blocked a punt and Dajhir Gordon blocked a field goal.
The Warren win means they will head to South Elgin to take on the South Elgin Storm. South Elgin defeated Lane Tech 55-6 in their first round matchup to advance. This is a familiar story for the Storm as they have been dominating almost everyone they have taken on. South Elgin’s offense is explosive, scoring 79 against Fenton, 63 against Elgin and 64 against Streamwood. They have only lost one game this season, losing 14-13 to Glenbard South, the number 7 seed in 5A.
If Warren wants to win this weekend, they are going to have to keep the offense moving. South Elgin is likely to score a lot of points. The offense will have to keep the ball, and score when they have it in order to not lose control of the game.
Warren will play in South Elgin at 1 P.M. on Saturday, November 4th for the right to advance to the quarterfinals.
