Warren is inching into the first month of the school year and already has some students stressed. From the weight of several Honors and AP classes to the homework load, its tension of school all around. The outbreak of school stress and anxiety is spreading and catching up to our own Warren Blue Devils like wildfire.
While school promotes healthy habits and easy-to-take-on workloads, students still feel they have a responsibility to take on all these advanced classes and some were taught that way since they were in grade school, including Sophomore Alexandra Colin “I was raised to be like ‘oh my grades are so important, I need to be smart to get all A’s and B’s’ because if not, that shows I failed”. And it’s not just Warren Township that has this stress-fest. 61% of teenagers between 13 and 17 feel stress over having perfect grades (Zauderer).
Schools are working on it though. With many more counselors and psychologists to talk to and teachers offering help, it decreased stress on students and their peers. Not to mention that even students help each other! So no matter how much of an impact stress can cause on one person, there will always be a support system with teachers, counselors and peers that are ready to be there in need of support.
If you or someone else you know is feeling stressed and need some additional help, contact your social worker or Ms. Hernandez at O’Plaine and Mr Jordan at Almond.
