When Kanye Snapped…
October 29, 2018
4 weeks ago, Kanye West took the SNL stage for their 44th Season Opening to give an odd performance of one of his new songs, “I Love It,” which featured him and Lil Pump wearing water bottle costumes. However, after the show ended and the cameras stopped filming, West went into a rant wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, explaining why he supports President Trump. West had publicly shared his opinion several times through social media, but even this wasn’t his boldest endorsement of Trump.
2 weeks after his confusing SNL performance, he went on to post a few odd tweets confirming his support of Trump, one of which included an image of the MAGA hat he was wearing. But even that wasn’t enough for Kanye. Later that week, he visited the President himself at the Oval Office to discuss prison reform, but West quickly fell into a rant covering about 40 different topics, such as hydrogen-powered airplanes and racism. He also mentioned that ‘liberals’ often ask why he supports Trump because Trump is a racist, to which West angrily responded, “You think racism can control me?” Even the President was shocked, saying “That was something.” Kanye later embraced the President, beaming, “I love this guy.”
In brief, I am not a Trump supporter. I’m fine with people supporting Trump, so long as they don’t hurt me or others. However, this was too much. There are more eloquent ways to voice your support of the President. Firey and confusing rants in person and on social media don’t intelligibly express a point of view- they only give off the impression that the speaker doesn’t think before speaking, or plainly doesn’t know what he or she is talking about.
