Judicial Retention occurs every two years, where voters can re-elect or dismiss judges on the Circuit Court and Appellate Court. The Appellate Court of Illinois is divided into five judicial districts. This year, Ann B. Jorgensen and Mary S. Schostok are up for retention for the 2nd Judicial District Appellate Court. Ann B. Jorgensen has been on the 2nd Judicial District Appellate Court since 2008. Prior to her time on the Appellate Court, Jorgensen was an associate judge in the Law Division of the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois from 1989-1994. After that, she joined the Felony Division of that same court from 1994-2008 before heading her way towards the Appellate Court. During her time on Illinois’ Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court, she has found a way to help reform DuPage County’s drug program by allowing nonviolent addicts who have been convicted to get help bettering themselves instead of being let go only to commit similar crimes. Mary S. Schostok, the other judge up for retention, has also been a part of the 2nd Judicial District Appellate Court since 2008. In 1998, she was appointed to be a judge on the 19th Judicial Circuit Court. During her time on the Circuit Court, Schostok was a part of the Misdemeanor and Traffic Division, the Law Division, and the Juvenile Division. Schostok has received awards for her work on child abuse related cases.

For the Nineteenth Circuit Court of Illinois, James K. Booras and Valerie Boettle Ceckowski are up for retention. James K. Booras was appointed to be a judge of the Nineteenth Circuit Court of Illinois in 2000. Prior to being a circuit judge, he was an associate judge from 1991 until his appointment. Valerie Boettle Ceckowski was appointed to be a judge of the Nineteenth Circuit Court of Illinois in 2007. Like Booras, Ceckowski was an associate judge from 1997 until her appointment.
