We are approaching the end of the girls basketball season and senior night was held against the Wauconda Bulldogs this past Monday. The Lady Blue Devils won against Wauconda with a final score of 52-34, leaving their record at 15-12 so far. Leading scorers included Mariah Phelps, leading the Blue Devils with 18 points, Anika Youngman with 8 points, and Nari Powers with 12. They also received the #4 seed in the sectional.
On February 5th, they honored seniors Nari Powers, Anika Youngman, Shay Love, Mariah Phelps, Mimi Dilosa, and Princess Ochil. Each of these girls have provided so much for the Warren basketball program from good sportsmanship to home wins. Assistant Coach Swanson comments on how they have inspired not only her as a coach but also for the whole program, saying “All five of the girls were so committed over the past four years and over the summer to be as successful as they possibly could, and it was our [the coaches] job to put them in positions on and off the court that would help them achieve those goals. Those seniors deserved my very best because that is what we expected of them, and that is what pushed me daily.”
These girls have worked very hard to achieve where they are right now and that was proven on Monday as well as the Waukegan game on Wednesday. Congrats to these young ladies as we wish these blue devils a bright future ahead of them. The team will play in the Fox Lake regional next week against the Grant Community Bulldogs on February 12th. Best of luck ladies!
