Homecoming is known to be a very important dance throughout the year, besides prom. Everyone and their mom has been to homecoming. But has homecoming lost its pep throughout the years at Warren Township High? Perhaps it’s the lead up to the dance that’s better than the actual dance itself.

Let’s compare a more modern dance to a dance from maybe a decade ago.

Our modern dances may be focused more on style than fun. “Who’s gonna bring the hottest guy/girl? Hope no one copies my dress.” For the most recent generation, homecoming is stress leading up to a dance only for one night. After all, preparation is key or dress to impress they say

So why is it still here?

Homecoming’s sole purpose is to bring all the students together for a good time to make new friends and dress up. That’s what’s so stressful – the expectation to go all out for something where you can be seen by anyone or by everyone. Maybe it’s our pessimistic generation that views homecoming like a pile of sweaty people dancing on each other that turns us from going to the event.

In an interview with a Warren student, they remarked that homecoming was more of an expectation for one night than fun. “I feel that they are getting lame and faded. It’s really about the spirit week.” Perhaps many would agree that it’s the spirit of homecoming that would ever give it the school pride. It can be classified as freshman’s ball but just another dance for upperclassmen.
