A Not-So-Musical Inauguration

Lianna Kowalke, Co-editor

Donald Trump’s inauguration is fast approaching, however the President-elect seems to be having a little trouble finding musicians to perform at the event. Much controversy has emerged over who is to perform at the inauguration, as many groups and performers are not eager to associate themselves with Trump after the long, tendentious election. The Talladega Marching Tornadoes, a marching band for historically black Talladega College, had agreed to perform, but have tried to back out of the event due some of Trump’s political and personal standpoints. Similarly, members of the renowned Rockettes have protested being forced to dance due to some of the President-elect’s scandalous comments about women. So far, sixteen-year-old America’s Got Talent star Jackie Evancho is the biggest (and only) solo star to book a performance. Though this lack of performers might be a tad embarrassing for Trump, who is accustomed to the company of celebrity A-listers, Boris Epshteyn, director of communications for the Inaugural Committee, doesn’t seem to concerned.  “This is not Woodstock,” Epshteyn said. “It’s not summer jam. It’s not a concert.” Whether Trump will be able to rack up some more performers for his big day remains to be seen, but be sure to watch it, as it is a very important event for all of America.
