From vast oceans to flourishing valleys, our planet is undoubtedly beautiful. Unfortunately, it is dying. From hundreds of melting icebergs to insane earthquakes in unexpected places we can see that our planet is perishing. Over seven billion humans live on earth. What can a high school student do to help save our planet?

#1 Carpool with friends

When you carpool there are fewer cars on the road putting harmful gases into the air. Not to mention that you save money on gas and keep the mileage on your car down. Carpooling helps both the environment and our wallets.

#2 Swap paper lunch bags for reusable bags and containers

Cutting out the use of paper lunch bags helps reduce the amount of trees that are cut down yearly. Losing less trees yearly helps make the air we breathe cleaner.

#3 Stop littering!

Waste that isn’t put into a garbage or recycling bin harms the ocean and our animals. In many cases a plastic can holder will become wrapped around a bird’s neck causing painful growths around the plastic.

#4 Reusable water bottles

Throughout Warren we have water bottle fountains, which is perfect for switching to reusable water bottles. Reusable water bottles condense the amount plastic that goes to waste.

#5 Eat one less meal containing meat each week

What we eat has a immense impact on the environment. Huge amounts of water and feed are put into just raising cattle, pigs, and chickens. Swapping a meat dish for a meatless dish once a week can reduce the amount of water and energy we put into raising animals. There are even vegan/vegetarian options in our school cafeteria!

No matter what you you believe in or where you are from we all share one thing, our planet. It is everyone’s responsibility to help take care of it. By following these five simple changes, or even following one, you can help make all the difference.
