What is wrestling? Well, wrestling is a combat sport, incorporating grappling against the opponent. It is a form of a martial art with the end goal of grappling your opponent to where you pin both of their shoulders to the mat for 2 consecutive seconds. This sport specifically is a weight class sport, meaning the weight you are is the weight class you are in and you compete against other individuals who are in the same weight class you are in. Weight classes differentiate between men and women but for men it is 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152,160, 170, 182, 192, 220, 285lbs. While, for woman there is 100, 107, 114, 120, 126, 132 , 138, 145, 162, 165, 185, 235lbs,
At Warren there originally was a coed team of boys and girls for wrestling, But now things have changed, this is the first year with 2 different teams, taught by 2 separate people. Majority of the time wrestling practice will be Monday-Friday from 4-6pm. Except on days of meets, the schedule will run a bit differently. The first meet of the season will be Wednesday November 26th at 9:00 AM, at Rockford East High School. Make sure you’re there!!
