What is inflation?
Inflation is a concept that is not too far beyond our knowledge, for most. Its dictionary definition is a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money. Even the United States at some point experienced an inflation some of you might know as The Great Depression. Who would’ve thought that economic instability could also affect the violence level in a country and make it threaten other countries.
Protests in Iran
Protestors are being hurt in Iran left and right, some worse. At least 495 protestors have already been killed. Not including security personnel worldwide adding 48 to our already big enough number. The protestors began, at first, protesting about the serious economic issue at hand. But soon enough it escalated to the point that they wanted their leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to not lead any longer. Iran’s attorney general decided to use religion as manipulation and proclaimed that any protester was an “enemy of God.”
The 3–way Threat
President Trump responded in declaring the need for swift action. He warned Khamenei that he would not sit with crossed arms while protestors were being killed in Iran. The United States has taken into account options for punishments. These include: military strikes, using cyber-weapons against their military, boosting online anti-government sources, and imposing more penalties. Iran threatened to retaliate to the United States military and shipping centers as well as Israel’s could suffer consequences if they were near.
Khamanei said protestors were “vandals” desiring to satisfy Trump. The country decided to mourn for three days the lives that were lost, also called “the martyrs.” A health worker in Tehran confirmed the deaths of 38 out of 70 people last Friday night before getting medical help. Young protestors took severe shots to the head and heart. The authorities of Iran released a video showing bodies in black bags and people sobbing while some looked for the bag in which their loved one was put. It is suspected that the idea that the video was a symbol of empathy and that they’re trying to prove this is more the radical violent people being supported by Trump rather than the government.
Diplomat Abbas Araghchi claimed protests were now under control while showing on Iranian television a great number of supporters. She made the same claim as the government saying that the situation was Trump’s doing. Iran did not back down as Aragachi said that they’d be ready for war but to talk too. The foreign minister also said that the internet would come back but never told us when.
In conclusion, the hope for a peaceful solution remains because if the only way out is through more violence there’s no telling how bad it could get.
