Aaron Stewart and Caleb Noble are both superstars on the mat and achieve what most wrestlers can only dream about. Both were state champions this year, invited to many prestigious tournaments, and still have way more to accomplish in their Warren Wrestling career. But, the best part is, Aaron’s a sophomore, and Caleb is a freshman. So how did they find their success?
It first started before high school, who both had caught the eye of the Coach of the Wrestling team, Coach Janecek. When asked about his first impressions on the two lowerclassmen he said, “I have followed their wrestling careers for several years now, even before they were students here at Warren. The traits I find in them both to possess which is rare for someone so young is both their demeanor on the mat and their expectation towards success. Both wrestlers not only want to win, they both put in the work.”
It first started with Aaron, who has been wrestling in tournaments and started taking the sport seriously at a young age. Football has also been very important in Aaron’s life, right with wrestling, so an intense work ethic is essential. When asked about preparing for whatever comes at him on a daily basis, Aaron said, “Good time management and just making sure I’m mentally and physically ready for 2-3 hard workouts a day could be challenging at times. But really over time you get used to it.” Aaron finished third in state last year, and knew what his goal was for the following season.
A year later Caleb came into the picture and the duo dominated. The Blue Devils wrestled in two national tournaments including one taking place in Illinois for a select group of schools. Aaron and Caleb both won the Cheesehead Tournament, and were placed at the Ironman, one of the most difficult high school wrestling tournaments in the country. They both were declared state champions at the end of the season. Many people would look at this success and would be immensely surprised, but to some it was expected.
The most impressive part is how they handle the success off the mat. According to Coach Janecek, their maturity after wins and losses is not overshadowed by the spotlight that was all of the sudden put on them. They also lead by example within the program, with Coach Janecek saying, “These young gentlemen are often the first to arrive at workouts, and the first to make sure they are challenging their teammates to be better.”
Another interesting part of their stories is that they both perform the highest levels, but are completely different people. When asked about any resemblances between the two, Coach Janecek responded saying they differ and, “Aaron is more blue collar in his demeanor. It took a state championship to do it, but you saw a smile after that match which is usually rare for him to display.” Aaron is more reserved when it comes to showing emotions when Caleb is the complete opposite. Coach Janecek explained, “In contrast, Caleb hit a backflip with a full twist directly after the match. Caleb works incredibly hard as well, but Caleb is a true showman.”
Although all the rewards the two wrestlers have earned so far, the job is not over and they both know that. Aaron has two years, and Caleb has three more full seasons of wrestling here at Warren. When Aaron was asked about his goals over the next two seasons, he replied, “For my next two years of wrestling I am looking for two undefeated seasons and that is very doable for me. For football, looking to run for at least 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns.” These goals may seem far-fetched, but both Aaron and Caleb should have these types of aspirations because that’s how talented they really are.
Thank you for the cooperation of Coach Janecek as well as Aaron Stewart doing the interview. To Aaron and Caleb, good luck in the next couple years, Warren will be rooting for you both. Go Blue Devils!
