After 24 years of teaching at Warren, and 35 total years of teaching, Mr. McNamara is hanging up the whistle and retiring. At Warren, he has taught many different types of gym classes, with his most recent being individual sports. He says,“it has been great to encourage students to be at their best in all aspects of class as it can apply to how life will be after high school and how they take care of their bodies in a healthy manner”. He also said that while teaching all of these different types of gym classes, overall they have taught him different things and provided different opportunities. Along with the opportunities he got from teaching and coaching at Warren, he says that his favorite part about Warren was the fact that he got an opportunity to teach at this school.
Along with being a gym teacher, he also coached the boys soccer team from 2002-2008. While all years of teaching have their perks, he said that one of his favorite years working here at Warren was the school year of 2006-2007. He says, “I was head coach of the boys soccer team when we advanced to the state championship game. As for teaching, each year always presented many joyful moments. There were so many great classes and students that came through”. Mr. McNamara’s favorite funny memory was when “an unnamed teacher hooked up an airhorn under another teacher’s chair and when he sat down, the airhorn went off and was so loud! It scared the daylights out of him!”
Students at Warren in his individual sports gym class commented on their favorite parts from his teaching. “I enjoyed his class and appreciated how he helped me get better everyday”, says a Junior in his class. “My favorite sport was definitely pickleball because it was competitive and fun”, says another Junior in his class. Overall, Mr. McNamara has made Warren a better place through his beneficial coaching, teaching, and presence. We are sad to see him go, but happy to see what lies ahead for his future! Thank you Mr. McNamara!
