The current US president, Donald Trump, has unfortunately not been very respectful recently to women reporters who ask simple questions so citizens can have a better understanding of what our country is doing. Our President should be a leader who shows how we should behave. Over multiple occasions, reporters who were practicing their right of freedom of speech have been bullied and disrespected. Unfortunately, Trump’s actions towards the women reporters are much worse than how he acts towards the men. He has made multiple claims on how he believes a woman shouldn’t be educated and have the power that she deserves. Surely, he can’t actually believe that because the women in our society make such an enormous impact and many are brilliant.
Recently, on the 14th of November, while Trump was being interviewed on Air Force One, a female reporter from Bloomberg News asked him about Epstein and the recently released emails. Trump snapped, “Quiet. Quiet, piggy!” Instead of responding in a professional way, Trump basically body shamed this woman who was just doing her job and if he politely excused her question the negativity could have been prevented. In this moment, anyone who was watching and believed that they could try to be more open about what they think is right could feel a sense of defeat. Many young women felt sadness when they read that he would say this to someone. It doesn’t matter who or what you are, people should always be respected and shown kindness. Ultimately, a high political figure should know what is right and wrong when speaking and be a leader who encourages his citizens.
Another recent example of disrespect to women who challenged him and his words was when he verbally attacked an ABC news reporter. The female TV news reporter Mary Bruce was asking him questions and towards the end of her time he rudely interrupted and dismissed her, claiming that she was a horrible news reporter who needed to go back to school to re-learn how to be one and claimed that she was a horrible person. Based on the patriarchy of our society, it is likely that if Mary Bruce was a man her questions would have been better received.
The end fact is that in the year 2025 any reporter who is not a male should not be put down and belittled by the highest elected official simply because their questions make him uncomfortable.
