Her name is Tyanna Jackson and she is just only a sophomore and has accomplished so much. Tyanna is a state placer in wrestling and the only reason she got this far was because she did not give up.
Her wrestling career started in 8th grade at Viking Middle School. She only won 3 matches that season and she got picked on for doing a sport she loved. However, that did not stop her, not in the slightest. Therefore, she continued to wrestle for Warren Township High School her freshman year. It was a good season overall, her record was 26-12.
Additionally, she wanted to get better so she decided to go to Toss Em Up which is a wrestling academy that helps prepare and train wrestlers to become the best of their abilities for the next upcoming season. Similarly, they also train in freestyle and Greco-Roman.
Toss Em Up helped her grow as a wrestler especially with Coach Noble and her Dad. They are the ones who were there for her on the sidelines watching her matches, cheering her on, and were there when the times were tough, alongside her teammates.
When Tyanna is on the mats wrestling, she is doing it for a purpose. After her matches she thinks of how she can do better, ‘not I should just give up’. It is her way of escaping from reality.
February 27/28th marked the start of the IHSA Girl State Finals. Tyanna went 3-2 at the state finals and ended up getting 5th overall in her weight class and ALL STATE honors. This all happened because she tried her hardest and did not give up. Congratulations Tyanna!
