Afghanistan
#1 Afghanistan is the most dangerous country in the world due to many reasons which include: violence, government instability, corruption, crime, lack of necessities, lack of security, and displacement. Violence is due to the radical groups in the country. Next, is government stability, which leads to the lack of security and the necessities that need to be supplied. Then, corruption threatens people with bombings, kidnappings, etc., which also pretty much covers crime too. The nation faces great disturbance due to all of these reasons. While help tries to reach this country, the threat to safety and well being makes it harder to bring help in times where it’s needed. The long term impact of conflict on this country has not only been bad, it’s been catastrophic.
Yemen
#2 Yemen has many similar reasons to be dangerous like Afghanistan. Right now, Yemen is in a civil war between its government and a rebel group called the Houthi. The effects of the war have been economic, leaving many in poverty and not knowing where their next meal will come from. Yemen is also having problems with disease being widespread, specifically cholera. Over 20 million need humanitarian aid. Thorough planning is important to go to Yemen along with specialized training and protective equipment.
Syria
#3 Syria has been having prolonged conflict for around two decades now. This long war contains the government, opposition groups, and extremist organizations. Due to this, lots of people need humanitarian aid, clean water, food, and a home. More than half the population before the war now has been displaced. Some of their houses have been bombed or destroyed by the fighting and so have schools and hospitals. On top of that, those in conflict zones face economic destabilization. To visit, you must know there are constant threats of violence, kidnapping, and a hostile environment. If you’re going as aid, then know you must have a plan in place plus protective measures. This story tells us the devastating consequences of ongoing conflict with no hope of peace in the picture.
South Sudan
#4 South Sudan has had ongoing conflict since its recent independence in 2011. The fight for power between ethnicities has made this country insatiable, along with violence, resource shortages, and a weak government. The ethnic disputes become so heated, that they can even lead to deaths. The government is distracted by the corruption and limited authority, therefore ignoring root problems and unable to solve security issues, to the point where diminutive problems become a bigger disturbance. Competition for resources leads to violence. They also face displacement; the camps are crowded and resources, again, are limited. Rural areas prevent farming and result in increasing food shortage. Aid staff and facilities face constant attacks. Its overall instability along with other complications make it win the title of one of the most perilous countries in the world.
Democratic Republic of Congo
#5 Democratic Republic of Congo, also known as DRC, has the opposite problem of the other countries above. Instead of limited resources, its sources of natural resources are abundant, leading to conflict as competition is made to obtain these resources. These disputes between combatant groups are often funded by illegal resource extraction. Even the militia is violent, which leads to population displacement. Rights are abused such as: forced labor, child soldiers recruitment, and gender-based violence. Civilians live in fear. Due to camp overcrowding, many started to catch either one of these diseases cholera or malaria. Aid distribution becomes so complicated, it often leaves some people with no support. The constant threats of insurgent groups make it hard for aid workers. Not to mention, the lack of infrastructure makes it hard to get to places where help is required.
In conclusion, we should be grateful for living in an imperfect yet safer country than all of these where we have more chances of education, healthcare, basic necessities, and overall a better life.
