With AP season right around the corner, it’s hard to stay motivated. Teachers are always pushing AP’s, saying they’ll benefit you in college, but it’s hard to stay on it when you don’t really know exactly how they can help. So I’m here to tell you the benefits of taking AP classes in high school.
- College experience: even if you don’t get AP credit for your subject, it’s still a very useful experience. AP classes more closely replicate college classes than regular high school classes do and they give you a vision for what college might be like, making you better prepared.
- College credit: I know this one is said everywhere, but do you truly know what it means? If you get a good score on the AP exam, you’re able to possibly skip that class in college, where it may be significantly harder. Additionally, if you gather enough AP credits, you may be able to cut a whole year off of your college experience, saving money and time.
- Recognition: taking AP classes stands out to colleges, scholarship committees, and teachers. By taking them, you are showing the people around you that you are not scared of a challenge and can handle stressful situations. Also, if you score good, AP classroom gives you awards that you can list on your college and scholarship applications.
- Important skills: taking AP classes throughout high school teaches important skills that will be useful later on in life, such as time management, study techniques, balance, and so much more. These can apply to academics or even daily life in the future.
So, even if your AP tests don’t go quite according to plan, they still count for something. Just think of all of the skills, knowledge, and experience that you’ve gained!
